About Urumqi

Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, serves as the political, economic, and cultural hub of Northwest China and a crucial gateway for China's western opening-up. It stands as the western terminus of the New Eurasian Land Bridge. Designated by the State Council as a pivotal central city in western China, Urumqi functions as an international comprehensive transportation hub, a center for Central and West Asian exchanges, and an international trade and logistics hub. The city focuses on industries including oil and gas processing, coal-based energy and chemical production, green mining, grain and oil, cotton and textile, organic fruits and vegetables, premium livestock products, new energy materials, and cultural tourism.

 

Geographically positioned at the continental center of Asia, Urumqi administers seven districts and one county, spanning 13,800 square kilometers. As the largest metropolis within a 1,500-kilometer radius, it hosts 56 ethnic groups. The city features a temperate continental arid climate characterized by significant diurnal temperature variation, scarce precipitation, and low humidity.

 

As the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt, Urumqi is renowned as the "Capital of Asia's Heart" and a key Silk Road junction. Recent accolades include National Civilized City, National Model City for Ethnic Unity, nine consecutive titles of National Double Support Model City, National Garden City, China's Excellent Tourism City, and Top Ten Ice-Snow Tourism Cities. The city preserves cultural heritage sites like the Ancient City of Ulap and boasts tourist attractions including the 5A-rated Tianshan Grand Canyon and 4A-rated Shuimogou Scenic Area.

 

 

About Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics

Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics is one of the key universities established by the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The university covers a total area of 630,502 square meters, with a building area of 644,635 square meters, including 148,392 square meters for teaching and administrative purposes, and 123,482 square meters for student dormitories. The library holds a total of 2.7628 million volumes, including 1.3428 million printed books, 1.42 million e-books, and 34 databases.

 

The university has six major disciplines: economics, management, law, engineering, science, and literature. It has formed a multi-disciplinary and multi-level educational pattern and system, with undergraduate education, graduate education, and continuing education as its main forms. Currently, the university has 15,117 undergraduate students, 2,782 master's students, 108 doctoral students, and 6,496 adult undergraduate students. The university has 929 full-time teachers, including 287 with senior titles and 306 with doctoral degrees. The university was authorized to confer master's degrees in 1998 and was the first in Xinjiang to be approved to offer MBA programs in 2001. In 2012, it was approved to implement the "China (Xinjiang)-Central Asia Economic and Trade Cooperation Service National Special Demand Doctoral Talent Cultivation Project", and in 2018, it was authorized to confer doctoral degrees. The university has two first-level doctoral degree programs in applied economics and business administration, 9 first-level master's degree programs, and 15 master's professional degree programs. There are 3 key disciplines at the autonomous region level during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period (including 1 advantageous discipline and 2 characteristic disciplines), and it was approved to establish a postdoctoral research station in applied economics in 2014. The university has 39 undergraduate majors, 4 national-level characteristic majors, 1 pilot major for comprehensive reform by the Ministry of Education, 16 national-level first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 3 autonomous region-level first-class undergraduate professional construction sites, 4 key majors in the autonomous region, 4 experimental teaching demonstration centers in the autonomous region, 13 national-level first-class undergraduate courses, and 14 autonomous region-level first-class undergraduate courses. It has been recognized as a national-level innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration center and was rated as one of the first batch of national demonstration schools for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform.

 

The university has established a counterpart support relationship with Renmin University of China, Central University of Finance and Economics, and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. It has also established cooperative relationships with Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Northeast Forestry University, University of International Business and Economics, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, and Guizhou University of Finance and Economics. Additionally, it has established cooperative relationships with over 40 foreign universities, including the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Woosong University in Korea, and Novosibirsk State University of Economics and Management in Russia. It has also cooperated with Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov in Kazakhstan to establish a Confucius Institute.

 

Entering a new stage of development and standing at a new historical starting point, the university is carrying forward its spirit of "self-improvement, rigor, openness, inclusiveness, and keeping pace with the times", and is steadily moving towards the goal of building a high-level university with Xinjiang characteristics, being well-known in Northwest China, famous nationwide, and radiating to Central Asia.

 

 

About The institute of Statistics and Data Science

The School of Statistics and Data Science traces its origins to the Planning Statistics program established in 1959 at Xinjiang College of Finance & Economics. Following MOE approval in 1980, it became the Department of Planning Statistics. After the institution's upgrade to university status in March 2007, it was reorganized as the School of Statistics and Information in September 2007. The current school was formed in March 2019 through integration with the School of Applied Mathematics. Through interdisciplinary development combining statistics, computer science, and mathematics, it has emerged as one of the university's priority development units.

 

Currently, the school offers programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The undergraduate level includes four programs: Statistics, Economic Statistics, Financial Mathematics, and Data Science and Big Data Technology (Science). The Statistics program is recognized as a National Distinctive Major and an Autonomous Region First-class Major, while the Economic Statistics program is a National First-class Major. Econometrics and Statistics are designated as Autonomous Region First-class Courses. At the postgraduate level, the school is authorized to grant doctoral degrees in the second-tier disciplines of Statistics and Quantitative Economics. It holds a master's degree authorization point for the first-tier discipline of Statistics and possesses three master's degree authorization points covering the second-tier disciplines of Quantitative Economics and Statistics, as well as the professional master's degree in Applied Statistics. During the "13th Five-Year" period, the Statistics discipline was an Autonomous Region Plateau Discipline, and in the "14th Five-Year" period, it is an Autonomous Region Distinctive Discipline. Furthermore, the school houses an Autonomous Region Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and an Autonomous Region Outstanding Industry-Academia Collaborative Postgraduate Education Base, and has established the "Xinjiang Socioeconomic Big Data Intelligent Analysis Center" and a "Mathematical Modeling Laboratory."

 

Research achievements (past 3 years): 28 research projects approved. 5 national-level projects, Major Project (National Social Science Fund), Western Region Projects (National Social Science Fund), Annual Project (National Social Science Fund), and General Project (National Natural Science Foundation). 10 ministerial/provincial-level projects. About The School of Finance

The School of Finance at Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics traces its origins to the banking class established in the 1950s. It was upgraded and restructured into the School of Finance in October 2007. The school currently offers programs in Finance, Financial Technology, Financial Engineering, and Insurance. The Finance program has a history of over 60 years at Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics. It was granted the authority to confer bachelor's degrees in 1980, master's degrees in 1998, and in 2012, it was approved as a national special-need doctoral talent training program, covering three levels of education: undergraduate, master's, and doctoral.  

 

The Finance (broad category) program at the School of Finance is a national first-class undergraduate program (2019) and a national first-class course (2020). It has been recognized as a key discipline at the autonomous region level (2003, 2010), an integral part of the regional peak discipline in Applied Economics (2016), a key specialty-brand program during the 13th Five-Year Plan at the autonomous region level (2016), and a national characteristic specialty construction site. The school has established 13 off-campus internship bases, including major banks, securities firms, insurance companies, and futures companies, as well as 3 industry-university-research collaboration bases.  

 

The faculty includes 2 experts receiving special government allowances from the State Council, 5 Tianshan Talents, 3 regional-level distinguished teachers, 1 regional-level outstanding teacher, and 2 university-level distinguished teachers. Over the years, the Finance program has made significant progress in faculty development, research and academic exchange, talent cultivation, and infrastructure. It has built 1 national first-class course, 2 regional-level high-quality courses, 1 regional-level outstanding teaching team, and 1 regional-level experimental teaching demonstration center. Additionally, it boasts 1 national "Workers' Pioneer" teaching and research office.
